Enviornment, Health & Safety

Hanwha takes corporate social responsibility (CSR) very seriously. We lead the business community in support of three focus areas, environment, health and safety, as we concentrate our efforts on these values. We hold as a core value our responsibility to perform business activities in compliance with all domestic and international laws, ensuring every activity Hanwha performs is to the highest ethical and socially responsible standard and making certain that all activities result in the betterment of the community.

In 1991, Hanwha became the first Korean company to take on the initiative of promoting national campaigns for environmental protection. In 2000, Hanwha declared ECO-YHES as our corporate policy which encompass the environment, health and safety and creates a management system focusing on the environment and safety.

Using this management system as our platform, the environment has been one of the factors of greatest interest in terms of Hanwha's attitude toward CSR activities. Consistent with our commitment to contribute to sustainable development, Hanwha manages the environment as any other critical business activity. Hanwha is trying to structure a systematic approach to health, safety and environmental management in order to achieve continuous improvement in its manufacturing, sales, distribution and disposal activities. Hanwha has also been concentrating our resources on the development of environmentally clean technologies as well as eco-friendly products and services. Hanwha is likewise taking proactive efforts to build our environmental business, a core area that we consider to be the business of tomorrow.

In order to ensure the safety of our employees, Hanwha has designated one day of every month to conduct safety checks in all our manufacturing facilities. The safety check is a business strategy for enhancing productivity and environmental performance through a safe work site.

Moreover, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has allowed Hanwha to pursue its greenhouse gas reduction commitment since 2006. Hanwha was able to reduce CO2 emissions by 130,000 tons in 2007.

Since 2008, Hanwha has been able to reduce CO2 emission by 250,000 tons every year, and the reduced emis-
sions are being traded to other countries with emission caps.

These efforts will be continued with renewed commitments, by boldly undertaking innovations and investments in the areas of the environment, health and safety. It goes without saying that our ¡°safety check days¡± will be enhanced even more with the ultimate goal of entirely eliminating work place injuries and product defects.

Hanwha firmly believes that every effort we make towards fulfilling our corporate social responsibility is another step towards making a better tomorrow. And through the trust and support of our customers, we will be able to continue these efforts.
