Dedicated to the national economy, Korea Explosives Corporation was founded in 1952 and successfully developed its own industrial explosives production. Localization of the explosives accelerated the reconstruction of the Korean economy after the Korean war. In 1993, Korea Explosives Corporation changed the name as Hanwha Corporation and diversified the business area into constructions, trades, machinery, and pharmaceuticals in order to be a world business leader.
Nothing seemed to stop Hanwha's glorious march until 1997 when Korea was hit by an unprecedented financial crisis. The Company was put under a serious threat. With the objective of improving management efficiency and financial structure, Hanwha set off a painful restructuring process by selling off non-business assets and folding marginal businesses. Through the process, it regained vitality as well as the focus on core business capabilities. Hanwha was reborn out of the crisis.
